Day 1

Arrive in Reykjavik, Iceland

Arrive in Iceland and journey to you accommodation. You will be able to venture the city for the rest of the day before embarking on the Ultramarine the following day.

Day 2

Fly to Narsarsuaq, Greenland

We'll arrange your transfer to Keflavik Airport in the early afternoon for a private charter flight from Iceland's capital to Narsarsuaq, Greenland. Here, you'll embark on your journey aboard Ultramarine. Nestled in Tunulliarfik Fjord, Narsarsuaq serves as the entrance to South Greenland. This scenic locale was first set up in the 1940s as a U.S. military base. Today, its roughly 2,000-meter paved runway and modest terminal are operated by Mittarfeqarfiit, the Greenlandic Airport Authority.

Days 3 and 4

The Wild East

We venture into the remote fjords of East Greenland, including Lindenow Fjord (Kangerlussuatsiaq), once home to ancient Inuit communities. This region, now a backdrop of glaciers and mountains, witnessed significant migration during European exploration. Today, it's a habitat for marine mammals, with occasional polar bear sightings and frequent humpback whales. Our journey encompasses wildlife observation and exploration of this alpine terrain through helicopter landings, hikes, paddling, Zodiac cruises, and shore excursions.

Days 5 to 7

Arctic Patagonia

At Greenland's southernmost point, Cape Farewell (Nunap Isua), lies a captivating network of fjords, sounds, islets, and rocky islands. Cruising through the 100-km Prins Christian Sund (Ikerasassuaq) promises to be a memorable experience, with its dramatic mountains, glaciers, and stunning seascapes. This area is home to the Southern Greenlanders, a community deeply connected to their hunting and fishing traditions. We plan to visit Aappilattoq, allowing you to immerse in local culture, from storytelling and music to traditional foods and soccer games.

In the heart of "Arctic Patagonia," the Tasermiut Fjord offers iconic South Greenland peaks, overnight camping with local hosts, and spectacular views of glaciers, rivers of ice, and towering peaks like Nalumasortoq and Ulamertorsuaq. Whether hiking or exploring by helicopter, the region offers breathtaking scenery and a deep connection to Greenland's natural and cultural landscapes.

Days 8 to 10

The Westland

Tracing the path of Greenland's Norse settlers in the Western fjords, we're captivated by landscapes reminiscent of Erik the Red's time. Greenland's name reflects its lush valleys and ice-dotted waters. Unique microclimates foster an Arctic Garden of Eden, where South Greenlandic farmers continue ancient Viking agricultural traditions.

We'll also approach the vast Greenland Ice Sheet, a prominent feature of the northern hemisphere. Our itinerary includes the rare opportunity to walk on this ice expanse. Over two days, we'll explore the Ice Sheet, hike the nearby hills, cruise or kayak amidst icebergs, and connect deeply with local communities, a hallmark of Quark Expeditions.

Our journey includes a day near Narsarsuaq, exploring Kujataa UNESCO World Heritage Site, a testament to Viking farming. We'll visit Qassiarsuk, a charming sheep farming community, offering insights into life beside the Ice Sheet. Discovering Brattahlíð, Erik the Red's estate, and enjoying Narsarsuaq's museum and panoramic views from Signal Hill, we'll immerse in Greenland's rich history.

Our adventure concludes with a farewell dinner at Hotel Narsarsuaq, followed by a charter flight to Reykjavik and a hotel transfer in Keflavik, marking the end of an unforgettable expedition.
