Cape Weligama

Bed & Breakfast 7 nights from €2,879 per person Including Flights

Overview

Cape Weligama is one of just three Relais & Chateaux hotels in Sri Lanka, and is arguably the finest resort on the island’s south coast.

Thirty minutes east of Galle, Cape Weligama is set in 12-acres of beautifully manicured grounds. It’s positioned 40-metres high, at the edge of a singular promontory, meaning guests can enjoy stunning views of the Indian Ocean beneath them. We recommend a dip in Cape Weligama's 60-metre infinity pool, as it supplies both excellent views and a chance to unwind after a busy day exploring.

Each of the resort’s 39 Suites and Villas provides a warm welcome upon entry, regardless of whether you’ve just arrived from the UK or are unwinding at the end of an in-depth tour of Sri Lanka. With private verandas, luxury toiletries and all the latest mod cons, you’re fully catered for.

Dining within Cape Weligama is world-class and the locally-sourced staff only help to make your experience even more memorable. They are incredibly friendly and totally devoted to pleasing their guests. Two restaurants ensure you have plenty of choice whilst the two bars offer complimenting yet contrasting atmospheres.

Guests wishing to be more active during their stay, can do so thanks to the resort’s generous list of activities. Cycling tours around Weligama are incredibly popular however surfing lessons and whale watching trips tend to be the most requested.

With facilities to rival any luxury resort and staff who’ll do almost anything to cater for their guests, Cape Weligama is undoubtably one of the best resorts in Sri Lanka.

Cape Weligama is located on Sri Lanka’s southern cost and is just 30-minutes’ drive from the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Galle.

This exceptional resort offers both total relaxation and the gateway to exploring one of Sri Lanka’s best-known fortresses.

Guests wishing to explore Weligama itself, can do so easily, as the charming fishing town is just a 10-minute drive from the resort.

  • Road transfers from Colombo Airport take approximately 3 hours.

Cape Weligama has 2 restaurants and 2 bars:

  • Cape Club - Offering a relaxed yet refined atmosphere, Cape Club is the perfect place to enjoy a traditional high tea or an after-dinner nightcap.
  • Ocean Terrace – Cape Weligama’s main restaurant, Ocean Terrace serves up the freshest local produce. Their menu explores pan-Asian and European cuisines however the chefs are more than happy to produce a personalised menu based on your preferences.
  • Tableau – With no walls between the kitchen and the dining room, this vibrant restaurant specialises in pairing the locally-caught seafood with the best farm-fresh produce. Dishes are prepared in front of you and no two nights are ever the same.
  • The Surf Bar – Sat atop a dramatic cliff, this casual bar overlooks the ocean. Guests here are regularly treated to a live surf show as they sip handcrafted cocktails. Happy hour is particularly famous at The Surf Bar, as they often host impromptu eight ball pool tournaments.

Spa

Relaxing is a huge part of any stay at Cape Weligama and with that in mind, the resort has created a wide range of treatments for their guests to enjoy. Sanctuary Spa provides a calm, peaceful environment in which their experienced therapists can deliver these treatments, ensuring you spend the remainder of your time feeling reinvigorated and refreshed.

Those who don’t fancy a visit to the spa, can enjoy treatments in the comfort of their own room. We’d recommend a massage on the veranda or a fragrant body scrub followed by a stream treatment in your shower room.

Sri Lanka is a largely Buddhist country and you will often find restrictions on alcohol in place. On Full Moon Poya days and public holidays the government prohibits the serving of alcohol, but guests are able to enjoy pre-purchased drinks or those from the hotel minibar. To see which days are affected, please see here.
