Overview

On-board the Monserrat, you’ll embark on a 10-day adventure through the Galapagos Islands, experiencing this awe-inspiring archipelago first-hand. This cruise sees you snorkel with sea lions, hike amazing scenery and discover the unique widespread marine life which thrives in the bays and coves. And accompanying you will be nature guides who can answer your questions about this phenomenal place and teach you about the amazing wildlife found here.

The Monserrat is a roomy 20-passenger ship with a bar, sundeck, dining room and lounge. You’ll be looked after on board by the cruise director, 11 dedicated crew member and two naturalist guides who will always be on hand to answer your questions about the local flora and fauna. All of you meals are included on the 8-day cruise, and you have a night in Quito at the beginning and end of your trip. (GM)

Day 1

Quito

Arrive into Quito and transfer to your hotel (arrival transfer included). The rest of the day can be spent enjoying the city as there are no planned activities today.

Day 2

Baltra & Santa Cruz Island

Take an early flight to Baltra and arrive in time for lunch, where you will board the Monserrat to sail to Mosquera Island, walk along the beach and observe the vast sea lion colonies.

Day 3

Isabela Island

This morning sees you hike the Sierra Negra volcano which has the largest basaltic caldera in the Galapagos. Along the hike, you’ll see smoking fumaroles and the ‘sulphur volcano’. In the afternoon, you will visit Las Tintoreras which is a small island near Puerto Villamil. While you’re here, visit the Wall of Tears, the tortoise breeding centre where the famous giant Galapagos tortoises are, and go white tip shark spotting from the bay.

Day 4

Chinese Hat and Rábida

In the morning, take a boat ride to the small island off the southern tip of Santiago, known as Chinese Hat because of its unique shape. Explore these beautiful surroundings and go snorkelling with the playful sea lions and array of tropical fish in the cove. From here you can see Galapagos penguins, amazing marine life and a large sea lion colony. In the afternoon, make your way to Rabida Island and visit the red sand beach. You’ll also have chance to see the prehistoric-looking pelicans, as they feed their young and go to the best deep-water snorkelling spots in the islands.

Day 5

Santiago Island

There will be a morning excursion today to see the dark sand beach, tidal pools and the salt crater, as well as the friendly Fur Seals. From here, you’ll continue on to Playa Espumilla which is one of the most picturesque beaches in the archipelago. It is here that you’ll find dense mangroves where flamingos and sea turtles nest. Have another chance to snorkel but this time with rays, turtles and reef sharks if you dare! Then visit the coves hideout for pirates and relax on a beach nearby. Finally head back to the boat to cruise to your next destination, enjoy a meal with new friends and go to the top deck lounge bar.

Day 6

North Seymour and Santa Cruz

Leave this morning for North Seymour which is home to marine iguanas, sea lions and swallow-tailed gulls. You’ll be able to take part in guided walks to observe the birds and wildlife, including vast sea lion colonies and home of the giant tortoise. In the afternoon, spend time in Puerta Ayora and visit the Charles Darwin Station to learn more about the island. Don’t forget to look out for the blue-footed booby nests where the courtship dances are performed.

Day 7

South Plaza Island and Santa Fe

Leave for South Plaza Island today, which is one of the smallest islands in the Galapagos. This area also has one of the largest populations of Land Iguanas and a large sea lion colony. Walk through a cactus forest and enjoy the unique vegetation and wildlife. In the afternoon, you’ll explore Santa Fe which is a fantastic place for watching sea lions, as well as a number of other species. Once you return to the beach, there will be some free time to go snorkelling in the lagoon.

Day 8

Punta Pitt and Isla Lobos

Land in Punta Pitt today on San Cristobal Island where you can observe the marine iguanas and seabirds on the beach. In the afternoon, head to Isla Lobos where you’ll be welcomed by countless sea lions with the chance to snorkel with the schools of fish below.

Day 9

San Cristóbal and Quito

Upon arrival into San Cristobal, disembark after breakfast and visit the Interpretation Centre to leanr the volcanic origins of the islands and its flora and fauna that makes the islands so unique! From here, transfer to the airport for your flight to Quito. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy your final night on the town.

Day 10

Quito

Today marks the end of your tour, where you will depart from Quito.
