Day 1

Santiago

This amazing South American adventure begins with your arrival into the vibrant capital city of Santiago de Chile. This amazing city is awash with colonial charm, neo-classical plazas and elegant neighbourhoods. Following your transfer from the airport and hotel check-in you’ll join the welcome meeting for orientation with your tour leader. You are then free for a short stroll to start to acquaint yourself with the city.

Day 2

Santiago

Following breakfast you’ll get the chance for a more in depth exploration of Santiago on a half day guided walking tour. Founded by the Spanish in 1541, Santiago is a fascinating mix of contrasting neighbourhoods, a vibrant culture and bustling shopping street and restaurants, all set against the magnificent backdrop of the snow-capped Andes. Head first to the heart of the city and the Plaza de Armas with its imposing Cathedral, followed by a stroll through the central market, before taking a cable car to the summit of Cerro San Cristobel where you can enjoy spectacular views back across the city. Your tour finishes in the bohemian Bellavista district from where you can further explore the city ahead of dinner at one of the city’s famous restaurants.

Day 3

Mendoza

Today you’ll make the journey by local bus across the Argentinian border and on to Mendoza. With clear skies it’s possible to see Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the Americas, standing at 6,962 metres.  Upon arrival into Mendoza take the time to relax before enjoying a walk through the city’s tree lined avenues visiting local cafes or restaurants to sample local Argentinian fare.

Day 4

Mendoza

Here you are in the beating heart of Argentina’s wine country and today you’ll get the chance to explore the country’s most prolific wine regions. Following breakfast you’ll visit several of the region’s leading vineyards, wineries and cellar doors to experience, first hand, the processes and tastes of locally produced Malbec, Merlot and other local varietals. The tour includes lunch before returning to Mendoza mid-afternoon. In the evening, try out your newly acquired vinicultural knowledge and skills to pair the wine over an authentic asado style barbecue.

Day 5

Estancia Stay

In the afternoon, take the flight across the country’s vast pampas region and into the capital of Buenos Aires. From here you’ll transfer about an hour out of the city to one of Argentina’s traditional estancias (ranches), your home for the next couple of days. After a long day, take time to relax before getting ready for dinner.

Day 6

Estancia Stay

Your stay at the estancia provides the perfect base from which to participate in a variety of activities, including horse riding, learning about the sport of polo or taking a locally inspired cookery class. Otherwise, just relax by the pool, catch up on a good read or enjoy more delicious Argentinian barbecue.

Day 7

Buenos Aires

Heading back to Buenos Aires after breakfast, you’ll check into your hotel before venturing out on an orientation walk of this vibrant and cosmopolitan capital city.  The tour takes in the bustling antique markets and art displays of San Telmo as well as Plaza de Mayo, home to the magnificent presidential palace with its beautiful Casa Rosado (Pink House) executive mansion.  Other options might include an authentically vivid tango show or the choice of an equally energetic football game or polo match.

Day 8

Buenos Aires

Your ‘Best of Chile and Argentina’ adventure ends today. Later in the afternoon, head to the airport for you flight home, taking an array of wonderful memories home with you.
