137 Pillars House
Overview
The original colonial teak building, the ‘Old Baan House’ dates back to the 19th century, built as the headquarters of the Dutch Borneo Trading Company and later owned by Louis Leonowens, son of Anna and The King’s Anna. The name is derived from the tradition of deciding the worth of a family by the number of pillars that held up the roof of their house, 137 pillars was the number counted here.
Although you are well located for sight-seeing this is a place designed for its guests to take time out from the schedule, spend time together in their suite and enjoy the setting of this very special tropical garden. Shaded loungers gaze across a welcoming pool at a vertical plant wall; curtained daybeds are dotted under lanterns in the gardens, so take time for afternoon tea, read a book or simply rest on your personal daybed.
