Overview

If you’ve ever wanted to see free roaming elephants enjoying their natural habitat, you need to visit The Bush Camp. Part of Elephant Hills’ portfolio – combining luxury tented camps with amazing adventure tours – this charming camp showcases the natural beauty of northern Thailand.

Over two days, you’ll get the opportunity to interact with elephants, including helping feed them and watching as they get their morning wash. You’ll also discover the life of the mahouts, who spend their days weaving, pounding rice and looking after the elephants. In between your time in nature, you’ll enjoy a delicious buffet dinner and breakfast, as well as a stunning sundowner overlooking Ping River.

The 2 Day Bush Camp Experience includes 1 night at Bush Camp, an Elephant Park visit to feed and interact with the elephants, Elephant Café experience,

The 3 day Bush Camp Experience includes 2 nights at Bush Camp, all the same core experiences but adds a more relaxed pace, extra free time to utilise the pool and leisure facilities and a final day visiting the Elephant Valley for deeper insight and even more elephant encounters.

20 individual luxury safari tents have been tailor-made to keep guests safe, secure and more than comfortable. All tents have 1 proper large double bed, or 2 twin beds and can have  rollaway beds added for children, sleeping maximum 2 adults and 2 child. The tents are designed with western style bathrooms and solar and wind power supply hot showers, amenities include:

All meals are provided during your stay, with the camp restaurant offering a variety of local cuisine in a sociable cafeteria style dining atmosphere. Elephant Hills is a magical experience for families and perfect for children as young as 4 years old who will enjoy interactions with the elephants on each day. Each tent can take up to a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children). 

Day 1

Bush Camp, Chiang Mai

Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, you will be transferred to The Bush Camp, taking approximately two hours.

You’ll arrive at the camp in the late morning, just in time for a delicious Thai lunch. After checking in, you can prepare for the day’s exciting activities.

Activities include visiting the free-roaming and chain free elephant park. Here you can feed and interact with elephants in their natural habitat. You’ll also enjoy a drink at the Elephant Café, where you’ll enjoy your treats as elephants roam in front of you.

You’ll also gain an insight into the life of the mahouts, watching as they pound rice and weave clothing, whilst also sampling their cooking and helping them create paper with elephant dung.

Later on, you’ll enjoy a sundowner and barbecue on one of the stunning mountain-top viewpoints, looking out over the magnificent Ping River. After watching the beautiful sunset, you’ll be treated to a buffet dinner including local and western dishes.

Day 2

Bush Camp, Chiang Mai

Start the morning with a lovely buffet breakfast. Upon arrival at the Free Roaming Forest, you’ll get the chance to try kafee boran and kanom krok, a traditional coffee and breakfast snack, while watching the mahouts caring for the elephants.

After breakfast, you’ll watch the elephants cool down with a morning wash, and will be taught more about how The Bush Camp look after their elephants.

As the morning activities come to an end, you’ll check out of the camp before tucking into lunch overlooking Ping River and being transferred to your hotel or airport.

For those staying an extra night, enjoy a relaxed afternoon by the pool or at your tent, taking in the surrounding nature. In the evening, unwind with a drink by the pool overlooking the Ping River as the sun sets, before returning for a buffet dinner featuring Thai and Western dishes with mountain views.

Day 3 (Optional)

Bush Camp, Chiang Mai

Enjoy a leisurely buffet breakfast before visiting Elephant Valley to observe free-roaming elephants, learn about their care, and take part in a final feeding.

Afterwards, check out, enjoy a last lunch with mountain and river views before being transferred to Chiang Mai to your hotel or airport.
