Tranquil and gorgeous

Pronounced tsav-tat, Cavtat is less than half an hour’s drive to Dubrovnik. Many take a day trip to Cavtat, but we like to recommend this charming town as a peaceful base for those who want to experience the liveliness of Dubrovnik but want some down time too.

Enjoy walking along the waterfront peppered with lovely restaurants and bars, take a dip in the sea at one of the small pebbled beaches and dine on sumptuous seafood and figs. Lush pine forests create a verdant backdrop to this calm and relaxing destination.

Why visit Cavtat?

  • Exploring Cavtat gives you the chance to discover more of Croatia’s history, culture and vibrant arts scene. Visit the 15th century St Nicholas Church and the Renaissance-style Rector’s Palace which is home to work by Baltazar Bogisic, a Victorian scientist, alongside over 35,000 items including Roman pottery and tribal art. Croatian painter Vlaho Bukovac created eclectic artwork that can now been seen at a museum that was once his home.
  • Staying in Cavtat gives you the opportunity to get away from the big crowds in Dubrovnik. The famous city isn’t far from Cavtat, and so this smaller and quieter town is a lovely and relaxing spot to sleep and recuperate after exploring Dubrovnik.
  • Take a walk along the paved trail along the Cavtat peninsula which is adorned with quiet beaches ideal for swimming, and a number of wonderful restaurants and bars. Cavtat is home to some of the best seafood in Croatia, often cooked over an open fire and paired with delicious sauces and vegetables doused in olive oil. Pork medallions smothered in rich fig sauce is also a favourite with the locals.
