The British Virgin Islands are a great place for beginners to learn to sail – the seas are calm and the islands are only a short distance apart. The fact that there are lots of different destinations to see only improves the experience. Travelling between the main islands gives you the opportunity to explore the different attitudes and ways of life.

Scuba diving

If you’d like to go wreck diving, the RMS Rhone is one of the most famous wreck dive sites in the Caribbean. It’s actually three different dive sites at different depths – if diving is your thing, this is a real treat. There a plenty of diving schools if you’re a beginner too, and if you like the idea of seeing marine life but don’t want to get kitted up, the BVIs’ clear water is the perfect place for a little snorkelling.
