Overview
This overnight tour takes you into Kanchanaburi, just over 2 hours from Bangkok, and here you will find the fascinating Thailand-Burma Railway Centre Museum with WWII artefacts, survivor’s accounts and an interesting look at how Hellfire Pass got its name. Nearby is the War Cemetery where over three thousand British prisoners of war are laid to rest, and the famous Bridge over the River Kwai, built during WWII by the Japanese and immortalised in print and film, known for the many lives lost during its construction by captive POWs. After a sobering and informative morning, you will continue on a short boat journey to the scenic setting of The Float House River Kwai.
Made up of a string of individual floating villas connected by boardwalks, your accommodation offers air-conditioned privacy and space with a ‘Thai folk’ design with teakwood furniture and private deck. The floating restaurant, appropriately named ‘Pontoon’,serves international and Thai cuisine with a tranquil river view. During your stay as well as enjoying the verdant jungle setting you will gain a unique insight into the culture of the nearby Mon Tribal Village. (AW)
