Useful facts for your holiday to Cuba

Flight and Transfers

From Dublin the flight time to Cuba is approximately 10 hours. If you’ve booked your transfer arrangements with us you’ll be met at the airport by a Tropical Sky representative who will guide you to your transfer vehicle.

Visa Requirements

All Irish & British passport holders require a visa to enter Cuba, which must be obtained prior to your departure from the UK. Tropical Sky can arrange this for you.   You’ll also need at least six months valid on your passport and an onward or return ticket. All children and infants must also have their own passports for entry into Cuba. Please check up to date visa requirements with the CUban Embassy or Foreign Office. New legislation states that all arrivals into Cuba must be in possession of a valid Insurance policy that provides both travel and MEDICAL insurance cover. Proof of cover will need to be available for possible inspection on arrival into the country.

Please note that all passengers departing Cuba will be subject to a departure tax of 25CUC. This will be payable locally at time of departure.

Language

The official language is Spanish. In the main tourist areas most people will be able to speak English to a reasonable level. A basic understanding of Spanish would be helpful if you have aspirations to visit less tourist-friendly areas.

Transportation

If you’re staying at a resort or hotel there probably won’t be much need for you to travel around. Taxis are always available to take you on any trips you might need, and often these are 1950s American classic cars making your ride feel quite special. You can hire a car but some of the roads are a little treacherous. If you need to travel long distance, the bus can be a very good option.

Currency

The Cuban Convertible Peso is the primary currency, although there is a second currency called the Cuban Peso that you probably won’t have much cause to use (it’s generally used in more rural and agricultural settings). Pound sterling and Traveller’s Cheques can be exchanged at the hotels. The US Dollar is not accepted.

Electricity

110V, 60 Hz, flat two pronged plugs in use

Vaccination and Health

Health requirements regularly change so please consult with your GP or specialist travel clinic well in advance of your holiday for specific information related to your travel and medical history. Additional information can be found by visiting  MASTA Travel health.

If you’re away from the resort, take care only to drink bottled water. But drink plenty of it, especially if you’re not used to the Caribbean heat.
