Why Andy & Jenny keep coming back to Barbados for more

Barbados holiday veterans Andy & Jenny headed to the island for a stay at Island Inn Boutique Hotel. Here's what they had to say about why they keep coming back to Barbados...

This was the fifth visit by my wife and myself to Barbados and the fourth to the Island Inn Hotel.

We love this relaxed and laid back island and its delightful people, not to mention its beautiful beaches and countryside. Travelling around the island by bus is always a good (and cheap) way to see more of local life and the drivers are always friendly and helpful.  We particularly like the ride across the island to Bathsheba on the east coast with its wild seas and strange shaped rocks, and the added bonus of a visit to the beautiful Andromeda Gardens.  Another good outing was to Holetown on the day of the colourful carnival parade. We also caught a bus (not quite so straightforward!) to Welchman Hall Gully in the heart of the island where we picked nutmegs off the ground.

We like the Island Inn because it is a small and slightly quirky hotel with very pleasant personal service as well as comfortable rooms and good food. It is appropriate that the old part of the hotel was the British army rum store, as the bar staff specialise in excellent rum punches. It would be hard to single out individual staff members as they are all so nice, but Sharon on reception always makes us feel particularly welcome, and on my birthday arranged for a bottle of Champagne to be left in our room which was a very nice surprise. The hotel is in a perfect location, only five minutes away from Pebbles Beach and it is an easy walk across Carlisle bay into Bridgetown.  A walk along the beach in the other direction past the Hilton Hotel takes you to the boardwalk which ends at Rockley Beach.

One day we were delighted to see a number of turtles swimming close to the shore, and several days later while swimming at Pebbles Beach I was thrilled to see a large turtle swimming quite close to me.

The historic Garrison Savannah area is close by and we have visited the George Washington House and Barbados museum. As English National Trust members we get a substantial discount on all such local attractions. The race course is also part of this area and this year as an added bonus the races were being held on the Saturday.  We had an excellent view of the racing just by standing at the roadside.

We would like to thank Andy & Jenny for sharing their story with us and hope to welcome you on another holiday soon.
